ICL Surgery

ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery is a cutting-edge vision correction procedure designed to provide clear, crisp vision for individuals with refractive errors. This innovative surgical technique offers an alternative to traditional laser vision correction procedures like LASIK or PRK.

Understanding ICL Surgery

During ICL surgery, a slender, biocompatible, fake lens is placed into the eye behind the iris and before the natural lens. This adjusts vison without changing the shape of the corneal and is used to correct astigmatism, hyperopia (farsightedness) and myopia (nearsightedness).

Benefits of ICL Surgery

  • High-Quality Vision: ICLs offer excellent visual outcomes, providing sharp, high-definition vision with minimal glare or halos.
  • Wide Range of Vision Correction: ICLs can effectively correct a wide range of refractive errors, offering vision correction for individuals with severe myopia or thin corneas.
  • Reversibility: Unlike some other vision correction procedures, ICL surgery is reversible, allowing the lens to be removed or replaced if necessary.
  • Quick Recovery: Many patients experience a rapid visual recovery following ICL surgery, with minimal discomfort or downtime.

The ICL Surgery Procedure

  • Consultation and Evaluation: A comprehensive eye examination is conducted to determine the suitability of ICL surgery for you.
  • Lens Measurement and Selection: Precise measurements of the eye are taken to determine the appropriate size and power of the ICL.
  • Surgical Implantation: As an outpatient procedure, it is conducted under local anesthesia. A small incision is made and the ICL is carefully inserted into the eye.
  • Postoperative Care: Patients will be prescribed eye drops and instructed on postoperative care to promote healing and minimize the risk of complications.

Considerations and Candidacy:

ICL surgery may be a suitable option for individuals who are at least 21 years old, have stable vision and have not had any recent eye infections or diseases. A thorough examination and consultation with our optometrist are vital to determine candidacy and discuss potential risks and benefits.
